Hi, there! I am not sure where to go to reply to private messages I received. I can see them, read part of them but there's no "reply" button/option. Can anyone assist me, please? Thank you!

I had to put down my dog Frankie yesterday. It was a quick, sudden illness and I'm still in shock a bit. I am exhausted but can't sleep. I took a 1.5 hour walk in the neighborhood and it has helped my mood a little. I will always love her and miss her. Any suggestions to get through the next 2 weeks or so will be great.

Our answer: Thank you for your message. I am so sorry to hear you had to say goodbye to Frankie. When we have to make these big, traumatic decisions and say goodbye to our very loved animal, especially quickly, our body can go into a state of shock and our nervous system tries to protect us. I think it might be on high alert. If you can do things to try to help you calm down (like the walk you took for example) or maybe grounding and breathing exercises, drinking something warm, taking a warm shower, whatever makes you feel good, can be helpful to help you regulate your nervous system again. Please know this is a normal response, and you are not alone in this.

If their passing was traumatic as ours was, what helped? We were lucky to have 16 loving adventurous years together which is also helping.

Our answer: I think when you experience trauma, getting professional support can be helpful. But experiencing trauma can make our body and nervous system go into fight or flight and we often replay the moment. If you can find gentle ways to take care of yourself and help your body feel safe, that can be helpful. For example, getting lots of rest, gentle movement and talking to a therapist or counselor can be helpful. I think its important to remember those 16 beautiful years and just how loved they are/were. That is what has always mattered to them.

How do you deal with the 2nd pet in your family after the first pet is gone

Our answer: Animals can definitely feel grief too. I think its important to give the pet you have at home extra love and they can provide support to you in return. Loving that pet hard will never take away from the pet you lost.

How do you cope on the days that your grief is very heavy?

Our answer: This can look different for everyone. I think its helpful to let yourself feel these moments, take rest when you can because your nervous system is working hard right now and thats exhausting. If you can do little things to take care of yourself like gentle movement, connection with people who get it, talking to your baby and finding ways to incorporate them and connection with them into your life, these things can be helpful to cope. It is unique to what feels good for you. You are not alone.

When does it get easier after loosing a beloved cat

Our answer: I think this is different for everyone, as the love and bond we share with them is so unique too. We will always carry grief as the love never goes away, but the pain does get softer in time. I am here with you.

Shortly after Skye passed, I did a memorial for her. I'm now unable to see it on the Memorial Wall? I wanted to check if I selected to submit it for Monday Memorial as I would like her to feature but I can't access it. It shows under my profile but I can't click into it

Our answer: Hi Heidi, Thank you for your message. I have looked into this and have gotten Skye's memorial back up. It seems there was a limit on the memorial wall and some were getting pushed out. Thank you so much for bringing this to my awareness and i truly apologize for this. Skye is so important and deserves to be honoured. She is also submitted for Monday Memorial, yes.
